Archaeological Landscape of Mayong in the Kalang-Kapili Valley of Assam

Mayong in Morigaon district of Assam is known as a land black magic, witchcraft, sorcery and tantric practices, spiritual healing indigenous medicinal system since the medieval period. The area also extremely rich terms archaeological remains sites historical importance. With an objective documenting mapping landscape region, extensive field survey was undertaken during 2020–21. This has resulted discovery diverse including polished stone tools, early late rock-cut sculptures temple ruins, specimens belonging to Pala-Sena period, mounds with pottery, brick terracotta architectural pieces, metal objects Vajrayana religious sect, inscriptions, engravings, mason marks, ancient quarrying, battle ground, ramparts, cannons cannon balls, water tanks, manuscripts, bronze bell sculptures, Vaishnavite Satras (monasteries), Naamghars (prayer halls) Thans (sacred places). paper discusses these their relevance for understanding cultural development Kalang-Kapili Valley.
